Did everyone donate to the food bank this Christmas? It’s nice that we can all give up a little help other people. But why do most of us only donate on Christmas and Thanksgiving. People need food all year round! Did you know that there is enough food in the world to feed 1.6 billion more people than does exist in the world? So why are there millions of people starving in the world? The problem is not abundance, but distribution of food. North American’s waste so much food every day, while others have none. We eat tens upon hundreds more calories than required in one day. Meanwhile millions of people cannot even meet that requirement. If we all bought approximately 5 items per grocery trip for the food bank, we could feed all of North America.
Now as for other countries, it is not practical to buy food and send it there. It would spoil! But what won’t spoil during travel is money. If every North American donated around $5 to charity in starving countries we could end world hunger. So I encourage everyone to make a new year’s resolution to donate food and money all year round, and not just on holidays.
